Limited slipcased edition of 100 hand-numbered copies (plate pasted on front free endpaper notes edition number), with a 8-1/14 x 11 inch original Type-C print, "Goethe-Nationalmuseum Weimar II, 2006," image size 6-3/4 x 8-5/8 inches (numbered and signed in black ink on verso by Höfer, print edition 100, printed in 2008 for this edition), in a separate green-gray cloth portfolio for presentation. Both the book and photograph portfolio fit inside the larger green-gray cloth slipcase.

From the publisher: "In the 18th century, Weimar, which in Renaissance and Baroque times had already been host to illustrious guests such as Lucas Cranach and Bach, emerged as the definitive destination for the great and famous. Duchess Anna Amalia established her renowned library and literary circles featured the very best minds of the day, laying the foundations for the myth that surrounds the city to this day. Her son, Duke Carl August, persuaded Herder, Goethe, and Schiller to join his court, making Weimer the absolute focus of German intellectual life, the 'city of poets and thinkers'. It is a reputation Weimar continued to nurture through the 20th century to the present day. As part of her major project on libraries, in 2004 Candida Höfer...first photographed the Anna Amalia Library, which only a few months later fell victim to a fire. In summer 2006, on behalf of the Weimar Klassik Stiftung, she scouted for further locations in Weimar. Once again, she focused on interiors with a great past -- this time primarily with a neoclassicist background: Goethe's home on Frauenplan, the Residence Palace and Belvedere Castle, Wittumspalais, the theaters in Kochberg and Bad Lauchstädt, and the German National Theater. The special aura of the city was to the benefit of Candida Höfer's photographic style. We can truly sense the spirit of the Enlightenment in her strictly composed images of bright halls, sets of rooms and museum interiors, all bereft of human life."
