First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Black cloth-covered boards with title stamped in silver on cover and spine; no dust jacket as issued; contained in a matching slipcase. Photographs and text by Harry Callahan. Essay by Hugo Weber. Includes a bibliography. Designed by Wayne Thompson. Unpaginated, with 126 black-and-white plates beautifully printed using 300-line screen offset process on Warren's Offset Enamel paper by the Meriden Gravure Company. The text is handset and printed letterpress in Bembo and Centaur by Bradley Brownell. 13-1/2 x 11-1/4 inches. This first edition was limited to 1500 copies.
