Description

This exhibition catalogue features Fischl's large oil-on-linen paintings of Indian subjects, as well as an impressionistic text, "India in My Imagination." From an ARTnews review by Barbara A. MacAdam: "Like his earlier work, Eric Fischl's 'travel' paintings are surprisingly disconcerting, and their appeal--or interest--often comes with the second look. In these works, however, Fischl doesn't add drama to the commonplace or turmoil to tranquility as he does in his 'suburban' paintings; rather, he builds on the unfamiliar, which he doesn't need to make any stranger than it is."
