Description

From the artist: "The Photographs here were the beginnings of what has now been a four year project. I began in earnest with the idea of making a record of the function of things and how seemingly benign things can give way to that of personal expression. While the precedents for this idea are nothing new and some might argue heavily trafficked in, time and place are not. James Agree wrote eloquently of a world that is its own artist. I think that any fidelity to unvarnished truth begins with the humility of that premise. In the same spirit F. Scott Fitzgerald likened good art to being like a letter home. The sensibility that informs Walker Evans' best photographs is a fidelity to unvarnished truth. In a world 'Where there are more photographs than bricks,' it is wondrous how the transparency of Evans' work resonates and continues to enjoy a strong cultural shelf life. My ability to risk foolishness is considerably more tolerable by his example."
